The Village Kids Deutsch

School for the Village Kids

After laying our focus mainly on our growing family for four years we slowly started to realize that in the village behind our rocks many many children are living whose parents cannot afford sending them to a decent school. Which means they are growing up without learning to read or write, with small chances of a bright future or even remotely tapping their potential .

So we began looking for sponsors. It was a slow start, but meanwhile 34 children between 5 and 18 years are attending five different schools in our area. Some of them were way too old starting at pre-school, but didn't even know the ABC. So we prepared two rooms in our unused, but very spacious chicken house as classrooms and hired a teacher. Now each year ten of the kids can be taught fundamentals there. Following that they can join one of the official schools.

It is such a pleasure for me to see how their eyes start beaming when they suddenly realize that they are able to read! At the beginning many of them appeared almost as if they were not capable of memorizing anything at all, because their brains had never been properly stimulated before. But after a while even their expressions completely changed! There was nobody who did not learn to read and write!

Comfort. Her father just died of Hepatitis

Jacob, a real intelligent one!

They all are now able to read!

3 sisters and a neighbour's girl, the first in their families who learned to read!

Odima, the first child we were able to find a sponsor for             Sarah, the first being sponsored from America

Many of the parents of these kids can't read or write themselves. Three mothers and one father asked whether they could also join the class and we gladly admitted them. However, learning was much more difficult for them than for their children.

We now get frequent requests by other mothers if we could send also their child to a school. We are so sorry when we have to turn them down because of lack of sponsors.
At the moment work is in progress to establish an association in Germany that will have the purpose of fostering education at schools and maybe even further for Nigerian children and youths!

Exchange rates between Euro and Naira have been great for the last two years, so monthly school fees were only 10 Euro per child. Unfortunately the Euro currently is falling badly so that it might be 15 Euro soon.
Anyway, we hope some of you who read this would take pleasure in sponsoring one of these children! If you are interested I will gladly send photos, either via email or WhatsApp!
